Dobyns-Bennett High School's Unified Bowling team out of Kingsport and Hawkins/Sullivan County Area took on Northwest High School for the final match at the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association (TSSAA) State Championships at the Smyrna Bowling Center on January 26th. Both teams bowled amazingly and showed great team spirit, but Dobyns-Bennett ultimately won the championship.

“It felt unbelievable to win, championships don’t come often,” said Dobyns-Bennett Coach, Stephen Baker

Coach Baker stated that this was his first year coaching bowling and accredited all the success to his fellow coach, who is also his wife, Coach Michelle Baker.

Throughout the day, you could feel the excitement growing leading up to the championship game. The crowd was filled with enthusiasm as the parents, coaches and team were cheering louder and louder with every point.

Unified Partner Bradley Anderson stated that since joining the bowling team, it has been his first time bowling since elementary school. He also stated that it was fun getting to enjoy time with the team at state and of course, winning state.

“It feels great to be bringing something back to school,” said Anderson.

Athlete William Russelo stated that it was his first year bowling on a team and that his experience playing this year has been pretty good. He also stated that it felt really good to win and that he was very excited.

“Getting my medal was my favorite part of the day,” said Russelo
